Snowflake Sensory Bag

A Snowflake Sensory Bag for Winter Sensory Play!

To say that our winter has been mild so far is quite the understatement. Lots of rain, but the snow is sadly missing. So we decided to create our own snow fun! This snowflake sensory bag is the perfect way to explore the snow and have some “snowy” sensory play without getting cold or making a mess!

DIY Snowflake Sensory Bag

Materials:

In all this takes about 5 minutes to put together, including locating all the materials. It’s very simple to prepare, but my daughter plays with them over and over making the time well worth it.

Place the gel into the zip top bag with the food coloring. You can make the gel as light or dark as you want, but I would recommend staying on the lighter side or it can become difficult to see the buttons.

Duct tape the top closed if you desire. My daughter has smashed these all over the place and I’ve never had one come open, but I’ve never tried with generic bags. You can also double up the bag at this point. I have done that when I use objects that might poke through the bag.

Scatter the buttons and sequins into the bag being sure to get some gel in-between them or they will all stick together.

Place the “snowy” sensory bag on the table and let your child enjoy some mess-free sensory play!

If you are worried that your child might squish too hard, you can also tape around the edges onto the table so that they cannot pick up the bag, but they can still enjoy playing with it. I did that when my daughter was smaller because I didn’t want her to randomly open the bag like she probably would have.

We played I Spy with our bag as we searched for all the different snowflakes.

More Ways to Learn with Your Snowflake Sensory Bag:

  • Count the snowflakes
  • Compare the sizes of different snowflakes
  • Work on introducing new words like “blue”, “snowflake”, “squishy” (My daughter’s favorite word right now is “goo”.)
